The Do's and Don'ts of Window Treatment Selection

Choose elegant window treatments for your doors and windows to make your room more glamorous and luxurious. Adding character to your room can reflect your personality through your interior design. However choosing the right shades and blinds can seem challenging at times. As a result, we've compiled a list of dos and don’ts to consider before selecting the ideal fit.

The Do's

Before you buy, take accurate measurements.

You need treatments that genuinely fit your windows if you want to decorate them professionallyBefore making a purchase, you must accurately measure your windows. The inside edge of the window frame's width and height should be precisely measured. Ask the salesperson at our store if you're unsure how to take these measurements. We'll send a team member to your location to make hassle free measurements on your windows.

When the architecture calls for it, install blinds:

The room's shape can sometimes dictate which shutters and blinds you should use. If a building's architecture prevents a rod from being hung across the wall—for example, if the room has dormer windows or slanted ceilings, or if there are a group of windows around one corner—blinds are usually the best option. We often use blinds in rooms where we want to play with light and shadows. Beautiful shadows fall across the room's surfaces thanks to thick wood-slatted louvers; it will be a dramatic look that adds a lot to the mood.

The Don'ts

Don't cut corners when it comes to size.

When you put up small-sized window coverings, it will ruin the look of your living hall. Shades and blinds should be at least twice the width of the window and longer than the window's actual height. You should not compromise size to achieve a sleek and elegant look for your home.

Don't make all of your rooms look the same.

If your bedroom has two windows, you'll want them to reflect each other, but don't feel obligated to use the same window treatment throughout your home. You can use a theme if the lack of continuity from room to room bothers you. For example, you might decide to use natural materials and fibers throughout your home, or you might choose to paint all of your windows in the same color scheme.
